Distinctive orange flowers without the milky sap in the stems set Butterfly Weed apart from other milkweeds. Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. New growth emerges late in the spring so mark the area well. Self-seeds readily if seed pods are not removed prior to splitting open. Indispensable plant in a butterfly garden. Height: 2′.
Seedlings come in 3 1/8″ bio-degradable pots.
A word about native plants: perennial plants, often with deep roots. Transplant them carefully as they dislike root disturbance. They are slow growing, and will not flower until the second year (or later).
